BC Stakeholders Summit on Building Canada Strong
British Columbia is facing an unprecedented housing crisis, marked by rising costs, shrinking availability, and deep inequities. The BC Stakeholders Summit on Building Canada Strong is a bold, multi-year initiative committed to transforming this landscape through collaboration, policy innovation, and community-driven solutions. With a special focus on achieving 70% housing stability and ownership for BIPOC communities by 2035, the summit brings together all levels of government, industry leaders, and grassroots organizations to tackle one of Canada’s most pressing challenges.
Why It Matters
Despite federal tools like the National Housing Strategy and BC’s Indigenous Housing Fund, many BIPOC communities remain excluded from stable housing. In Vancouver, Black, Arab, and Latin American communities face the lowest homeownership rates, and nearly 40% of the province’s homeless population is Indigenous.
These disparities are not accidental; they’re the result of historic inequities in lending, zoning, and development. Our summit aims to change that.
Increase affordable housing availability for underrepresented communities
Ensure equitable access to CMHC Indigenous Housing Fund (CHIF) funding for BIPOC-led housing projects
Strengthen collaboration between governments, financial institutions, and community organizations
Develop long-term housing solutions that promote economic and social sustainability
Advocate for inclusive housing policies that address systemic barriers and disparities
Our Approach
We believe in community-led solutions. The Summit empowers BIPOC developers, nonprofits, and construction firms to lead the way in affordable housing delivery. It also pushes for race-based data integration, inclusive zoning policies, and anti-racism principles in funding structures at every level.
Together, we are building a more inclusive and equitable housing future for all British Columbians.
